Charge d'affaires of Georgia in Turkmenistan Avtandil Napetvaridze said that Turkmenistan has become one of the main suppliers of petroleum products for Georgia. An article by a Georgian diplomat dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the restoration of Georgian statehood was published in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

"It should be noted that Turkmenistan has recently become one of the main suppliers of petroleum products for Georgia. By the end of 2021, Georgia imported 21.3 percent of the total volume of gasoline and diesel fuel from Turkmenistan. As for aviation kerosene, this figure is even more impressive – 59.9 percent," the publication of the Georgian diplomat emphasizes.

Napetvaridze notes in the article that bilateral trade between Georgia and Turkmenistan, after a significant decline in 2020 caused by the global economic crisis as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, is currently rapidly gaining momentum. The diplomat emphasizes that according to the indicators of the National Statistical Service of Georgia, by the end of 2021, compared with the previous year, bilateral trade between Georgia and Turkmenistan increased 2.5 times and exceeded the indicator of the pre-pandemic 2019 by 28 percent.
