The Government of Turkmenistan and the European Union are preparing a high–level meeting that will be devoted to strengthening cooperation in the environmental sphere - reducing methane emissions, using the possibilities of hydrogen and "Green Transition".
The EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso told ORIENT about this on the sidelines of the international scientific conference "Environmental aspects of hydrocarbon resources extraction" in Ashgabat.
"For us, this is an indicator that the Government of Turkmenistan is serious about fulfilling its international obligations in the field of ecology and is fully ready to further improve our planet for future generations," the diplomat said.
It is expected that the meeting at the ministerial level will be held in the second half of this year. A separate topic of the talks will be the use of new hydrogen production technologies that can be used by Turkmenistan.
In general, assessing the progress of the conference, Diego Ruiz Alonso noted that it is of great importance in connection with the current climate problems facing humanity.
– I think this is a very good initiative of the Government of Turkmenistan to bring together experts from all over the world who deal with these important issues for the planet.
The forum was attended by representatives of international organizations and international energy companies. About 30 speakers discussed the transition to a new era of energy, reducing methane and CO2 emissions, environmental financing, etc.
